bluegrass / bluegrass gospel / acoustic roots

Press Photo Laurie Harris   is a bluegrass, gospel, and acoustic roots musician from Tallassee, Alabama, and works in Montgomery as a CPA. She plays guitar and fiddle and sings lead and harmony vocals. Laurie grew up playing traditional country, folk, and gospel music. Eight years ago she fell in love with bluegrass music and took up the fiddle a few years later. Laurie’s crystalline voice is said to have a remarkable gift for phrasing and is often compared to the voices of Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris.

In 2013 Laurie released her debut CD, Back to the Mountains, a solo, acoustic, “girl–with–guitar” project. It presents some of her favorite selections of bluegrass and bluegrass gospel songs, as well as two of her own originals, “Victory Over the Grave” and “He Picked Me Up.” It also includes a few of her most requested covers such as “Wayfaring Stranger” and “Danny Boy.” Timothy Yap, BREATHEcast news reporter, wrote the following in his album review: “…Harris has shown throughout this fine rootsy debut that she has an uncanny knack to take the classics and breathe new life into them. Together with her youthful sensitivity as well as her seasoned nuances, she has a way of transporting us into God’s presence where beauty is not only sung but experienced all around.”

From a young age, Laurie has enjoyed sharing stories through song and her goal is to touch you with good music that tells a good story with a delivery that enables you to join her for the journey.
